Q: I have an existing concrete walkway that is in good shape. Can I lay pavers over it?
A: Pavers can be laid on top of existing concrete walkways although it is not the preferred method. This process will raise the grade by about three inches (this includes the bedding sand plus the thickness of the paver itself). Doorways are a particular consideration using this method.
Q: Can pavers be used around my pool deck?
A: Lowcountry Pavers can create beautiful pool decking and provide a slip resistant surface as well. Our Cool Coastal Colors are especially suited for pool decking. Because they are formulated from a white cement base, pavers made from this color palette absorb less sun during the hot summer months, thus providing cooler temperatures underfoot. Bullnose pavers also provide attractive coping around the edge of the pool.
Q: Does the color go all the way through the paver?
A: Yes! Our color is through and through. Lowcountry pavers offer a consistent pigment throughout each individual paver.
Q: How do pavers compare to stamped or patterned concrete?
A: Patterned and stamped concrete is merely poured concrete stamped Topically with a pattern. It is susceptible to all of the cracking, durability and maintenance problems as is regular concrete or asphalt. Stamped concrete also requires expansion joints every ten feet or more. These expansion joints can be very distracting in various patterns. Because Lowcountry Pavers are installed individually, beautiful patterns and artistic motifs can be created without distraction of joints or fear of cracking.
Q: How do Lowcountry Pavers compare to clay pavers?
A: Aside from the limited color choice (clay pavers are available in limited shades of red or red-brown), clay pavers have surface irregularities, making them prone to damage from edge chipping and flaking. Inconsistent dimensions also make clay pavers slow to install and difficult to maintain straight pattern lines. Lowcountry Pavers will accommodate over 9,000 psi while clay pavers have a rating of less than 7,000 psi. Also, clay pavers cost more per individual unit. Lowcountry Pavers are clearly superior.
